Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera jamesonii
A deep rooted perennial native to South Africa that is also grown as an annual in cooler climates around the world. It forms a clump up to 1.5 to rarely 3 feet in width of very attractive luxuriant deep green foliage that can be up to 24 + inches in length.
The leaves, are lobed and are woolly beneath.
The brilliant, showy flowers, borne on stalks up to 27 inches high, are either single or semi-double and up to 6 inches in width. They are borne late spring to late summer.
It is a perennial from zone 8 and south, especially if protected from frost.
As a perennial it can be divided every 3 or 4 years.
In cooler climates it is an annual that is grown either for bedding or in pots.
Prefers full sun on deep, light, humus-rich, moist, well drained soil.
many of the hybrids are mixes with Gerbera viridifolia and can come in white, yellow, pink, salmon-pink, red or violet.
