Peltoboykinia tellimoides
One of a genus of 3 species of perennials, this one is native to forested mountains in southeast China and the island of Honshu in Japan. It is similar in appearance to Darmera peltata.
The rounded, shallowly-lobed leaves are up to 16 x 12 inches in size The very attractive foliage is reddish at first, turning to mid-green.
The pale yellow, bell-shaped flowers, up to 0.5 inches long, are borne on cymes atop a stalk up to 3.3 feet in height, during early summer.
Hardy zones 6 to 8, easy to grow and hardy in Michigan.

Peltoboykinia wantanabei
Similar to P. tellimoides that is native to mountain forests on the islands of Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It is endangered in the wild.
The deeply-cut, rounded leaves, up to 14 x 12 inches in size. The attractive foliage is reddish at first, turning to very glossy green. The leaves are borne atop stems up to 1.5 feet high.
The very small, yellow flowers, up to 0.5 inches long, are borne on stalks, up to 2.5 feet high, during mid-summer.
Hady zones 5 to 8 in partial to full shade on moist, fertile, humus-rich, well drained soil. Propagation from seed is easy, it often reproduces on its own. It is very easy to grow once established.
