Spring Beauty

Claytonia virginica

A rapid spreading, bulbous perennial, reaching a maximum height of 16 ( rarely over 5 ) inches. It is native to moist, fertile woodlands in eastern North America ( Minnesota to Quebec & Nova Scotia; south to Texas to Georgia ).
The narrow leaves are up to 8 x 1 inches.
The 5-petalled, bright pink flowers, up to 1 inch across, are borne early to mid spring.
Hardy zones 4 to 8 on moist, fertile, humus-rich soil in partial shade.
