Also called Serissa japonica. A dense, small, evergreen shrub, reaching a maximum size of 5 x 7 ( rarely over 4 x 4 ) feet, that is native to southern China and Japan. Some records include: 6 years - 5.2 feet. It is often used as a low hedge in its native range.
The leathery oval leaves, up to 1.5 inches in length, are deep green.
The fragrant, white flowers, up to 0.3 inches wide, are borne during mid to late spring, then sporadically during summer.
They are followed by a small berry.
Hardy zones 7 to 9 ( possibly 6 on protected sites ). It is not prone to insect pests or disease.
'Georgia Hardy'
A hardy clone, reaching up to 4 x 4 feet, that is solidly hardy in zone 7.
'Kowloon'
Dense and domed in habit, reaching a maximum size of 4 x 4 ( rarely over 3 x 3 ) feet
The foliage is luxuriant mid-green and boldly edged creamy-white.
